Rehabilitation of People with Mental Illness
Mental Illness and the Society
Mental illness particularly Schizophrenia is known to be a common illness affecting 1% of the general population. In National Capital Region alone there are approximately 2 lakh people suffering from this illness.
Schizophrenia usually strikes young people between the ages of 15 to 25 years, the most productive period of one’s life. Moreover, the treatment and rehabilitation facilities available for such persons are limited in our country.
Richmond Fellowship
Richmond Fellowship is one of the widest network of service providers in the field of mental health in the world. The fellowship was started by Elly Jansen in Richmond, U.K. Soon the movement spread to many countries.
The main objective of the fellowship is to provide care for those who are suffering from mental and emotional disturbances. Richmond Fellowship follows therapeutic community approach for treatment of such persons.
The Richmond Fellowship Society (India) was established in the year 1986 at Bangalore as a Registered Society for a charitable cause. Currently, RFSI has 4 branches located at Bangalore, Delhi, Lucknow and Sidlaghatta.

RFSI, thus, holds a unique position in the mental health sector as a leading organization, providing community based rehabilitation and training in the field of mental health.
